Peace for All
Once the German government sought an armistice on, the Allies met in Versailles (just outside of Paris) in what is known as the Paris Peace Conference to discuss the fate of Germany and try to make peace. Russia and the Central Powers were excluded from the conference. France, Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom became known as the “Big Four” and dominated the discussion. US President Woodrow Wilson kept pushing for the creation of the League of Nations along with his idea of having “peace without victory.” Woodrow believed that Germany shouldn’t suffer anymore, since it was already left in poor condition after the world war.

On the other hand British Prime Minister David Lloyd and French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau wanted to weaken Germany as much as possible and impose restrictions, preventing it from rising up and threatening them again. Wilson was able to compromise with Clemenceau and Lloyd and have Germany sign the Treaty of Versailles, so long as the League of Nations gets created. Both end up being useless due to the fact that the League of Nations doesn’t have any power to prevent war, and Germany defies the treaty multiple times without being punished for it.
